Meera Asrani

Hello and welcome aboard! I am a Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist.

Qualifying as an Integrative Psychotherapist in 2011, I have embraced the Humanistic and Psychodynamic approaches in my practice for over a decade.

During therapy the client and the therapist journey together and explore the world of emotional awareness. I help clients navigate the path of self-actualisation and help them in an empathetic and safe space.

The approach I take is investigative and demystifying – it’s a traditional method designed to help people course through their daily social and situational interactions with ease, composure and security. The aim is to facilitate reflective self-examination in order to experience change.

While the end of the road is not always clearly visible, the key is to keep going.

Not knowing where to begin can be overwhelming. Most of the times, the Internet has us believing that we are going through emotional and mental health issues. However understanding our quirks, worries, and struggles might require a little more than online research. What one is looking for is a patient, attentive and empathetic listener especially a non-judgmental one, with whom we can safely share our feelings, and thoughts.

This is where I come in. I help break the barriers of the mind and facilitate healing from within.

Therapy is for everyone who wants to do it. I work with a wide range of age groups, from young adults and teens to adults and the elderly.

Therapy works differently for everyone. It is important not to compare your journey with someone else’s.

Having said that the amount of therapy you may need is based on:

  • The nature, severity and duration of the presenting circumstance
  • Individual resilience and coping style 
  • Amount of social support you have
  • Current life stresses

Some problems respond to brief therapy approaches, while others will require a longer period of time. More intensive therapy could be required to achieve relief, healing and change. 
It is important to just begin and give it a try.

One of the key reasons are health & safety. Online therapy allows us to limit social interaction as we collectively work towards keeping clients, their families, the community safe during the COVID 19 pandemic. 
However, it also gives access to those who cannot get access to therapy in person due to varying circumstances. And it allows you to get help no matter where you are.

Yes, there are many benefits to online therapy.

Many clients have reported that they prefer the ease of access of online therapy. They can receive support, from any part of the world. Parents have also found it helpful for themselves or their children, as it does not require them to leave the home to receive support. They can connect with their therapist from anywhere in the world so there is continuity of care.

It also saves time. Online therapy is a sure way to save time that would have been spent on traveling to and fro. Post our session, I encourage  you to use your commute time on a meditation practice, journaling your thoughts, reading a book, doing home-based yoga, etc.

The contents of all therapy sessions remain completely confidential. I will not share any identifying details about you, or our conversations. There are some exceptions to our confidentiality agreement that are mandated by law:

1. If I have reason to believe that you are likely to pose immediate harm to yourself or others.

2. If I have become aware of ongoing sexual abuse, child abuse or elderly abuse; and substance abuse in minors. 

In any of these instances, I will be compelled to break confidentiality and warn the appropriate authorities/persons. For the most part, I will discuss this with you before taking any such measures. However, in certain circumstances, I may have to break confidentiality to protect you or others without your express knowledge at that time.

It is my belief, that, we cannot look at the mind singularly. Nourishment in form of food, exercise, mindful breathing techniques and general lifestyle play a big role in our overall wellness.

I am a learner who is continuously doing courses and updating my knowledge of the profession, incorporating my learnings and current researches in my practice.

Simple and safe

The heart of my practice is careful and attentive listening. I interact with my clients using non-technical language and asking simple questions. The setting is easeful and conversations are confidential.

Understanding the role and impact of important relationships in your life, including ours, and looking at patterns of relating to the self and others.

Emotional Freedom Techniques

EFT tapping exercises combine elements of cognitive restructuring and exposure techniques with acupoint stimulation. The technique instructs individuals to tap on meridian endpoints of the body. While tapping, specific phrases are said that target an emotional component of a physical symptom.

Art Therapy

Under my guidance, as an art therapist, we “decode” the nonverbal messages, symbols, and metaphors often found in an artwork created by you during the session. No artistic talent is necessary for art therapy to succeed, because the therapeutic process is not about the artistic value of the work, but rather about finding associations between the creative choices made and your inner life. The artwork can be used as a springboard for reawakening memories and telling stories that may reveal messages and beliefs from the unconscious mind.

Non-verbal tools that allow me to bring in alternative means of exploration and expression in the therapy sessions, offering us a gentle way to uncover unconscious material and also heal.

I chose the lighthouse as my logo as this is what a lighthouse symbolizes for me. The beam of the lighthouse, continuously revolving like a beacon of hope, reminds me of the power of light of consciousness within all of us.

Growing up in the coastal city of Chennai, the love and admiration for the ocean had a major influence on my journey. No matter what the season, the constancy of the lighthouse standing guard on the shore, was a reassuring reminder for me to let go of my fears and continue on my journey of self-discovery and healing. In my journey so far, there have been many kind people who have stood beside me and guided me just as the lighthouse does to many travelers in this world. Hence, I decided to pursue psychology and have dedicated my life to become a lighthouse to others around me.
